Alright,
So, I've finally got my application video posted on the Community Manager website. I will give a link a little later in this post.
First of all, I want to say that this has been an interesting, mostly-enjoyable journey so far. I had a lot of fun.
I also want to thank all of my friends for their help and support so far.
However, the race is not over. The application period closes(d) the 28th of August at 11:59 PM, but it is not over yet. The first round of cuts is then made within the next week, where the number of applicants will be pared to the top 25. So far there are less than ten applications in, so I admit I'm pretty confident in my chances of making it to round 2. The next round of cuts will be made by September 11th, leaving only five candidates for in-person interviews. This is my goal. But I cannot in any way, shape, or form do it by myself. Some of the other candidates have tremendously large, as in five-figure, numbers of Twitter followers. Others have blogs dedicated to social media. Others have more Facebook friends than me. You can bet that many of these followers will be voting for the person they are following. But I haven't lost hope yet. With tens of thousands of followers, I am willing to bet that the ties there are not as strong as the ones I have with my much smaller friends list. So with this in mind, I am asking for the help of my real friends, and hoping that my group of followers is more dedicated.
Here's how you can help. I am trying to get into the top 5 candidates. Those are the ones who get personal interviews. I feel confident in my ability to do my best at that part of the campaign; either I will get the job, or I didn't have a shot when I walked in the room. But I need the help of all my true friends in getting there. What I need to get there is a great showing of support. The most important thing is that my video get as many ratings as I can garner. So I need all of my real friends to vote, please. Then, for those friends committed to helping me in any way they can, there are other steps you can take. The first might be asking a lot, but I hope that I will be able to get some of good friends to do this. Pimp me. What I mean by this is to try to get as many of your friends, whether or not I know them, to vote for me. Act as reference, and convince as many people as you can to rate my video. Post it in your status box, tweet about it, blog about it, comment people, call people, text people, as much as you can and are willing to do to get my video more votes, cause that is a huge factor in who gets to the interviews. And if they will do the same, even better. The second thing you can do takes a couple minutes, but might be easier to do. Go to the Vann's Community Manager page and create a profile if you haven't already. It's really easy, you only need to fill out a couple boxes if you're not running. Then leave recommendation comments on my Community Manager profile, and comments on my video on that site after you have rated it. The more comments I can get, the more buzz I have built, the better it looks.
But again, the best thing you can do is spread the word to as many people as you can. The more votes I get, the better my chances, so please help me become viral (but not in a flu-like way) by telling your friends and asking them to tell theirs. If you need any help with anything related to this, obviously I would be more than happy to help, and if any of the people you tell want to talk to me first, please just let me know. Votes keep counting until the final round of interviews so please help me out until September 11th!
Thanks again for all of your help throughout all of this. Let's hope that quality of friends counts for more than quantity here!
Thanks again,
-Kellan
